Service Description

Scratch is a free programming language software where you can using blocks of code to create your own interactive stories, games, and animations. In this Scratch Coding Thanksgiving Virtual camp, the projects are fun and interactive - students will make their own crazy animations, fortune tellers, stimulations, and even learn how to create their own game where the code can detect the movement of the hand with a webcam. The live meetings will be held via Zoom from 3:30-5 pm EST on November 22, 23, 24, and 26th. No meeting November 25, Thanksgiving Day. This class is suitable for beginners and experts alike. Recommended for ages 10-15. The live instructor, Anna, takes the time to break down new concepts and explain how coding works. Tentative Schedule: November 22nd: Dino Dance Party- this is a stimulation project. The students will create a dinosaur dance party where they will learn how to give keyboard command to multiple Sprites (they are the objects on the screen), add music and create animations with lights effect. November 23 rd: Ask Gobo. This is a fortune telling project, you can ask any question you like and Gobo will pause to look like its thinking, but his answers are actually pure chance. The student will learn about random numbers, variables, and how computer programs make a choice and takes chances. November 24 th: Window Cleaner. Student will create a game that counts how many splats you can clean of your computer screen in a minute. You can wipe away the splats with a mouse or by waving your hand in front of a webcam, this can be done using a special line of code. November 26 th: Fractal Tree Stimulation. To create this project students will learn the code that creates special shapes called fractals, simulating the way the tress grow in nature. Live Lesson Overview - Instructor discusses the project and proceeds with live step by step instructions. Instructor leads students in project followed by interactive questions and answers, peer interaction and support. A 5 minute minute break is included in the session. Prerequisites: Have access and account to the latest version of Scratch 3.0 https://scratch.mit.edu/ Zoom and Web connection required. Optional: Second device for screen mirroring and easier use. Cancellation Policy Bookings is 50% refundable up to 1 week before session start date. No refunds after that.
